Management Master’s Degree with Public Relations Specialization

The Master of Science in management with a specialization in public relations from University of Maryland University College helps you build your expertise in public relations and develop advanced business management and organizational leadership skills while you prepare for PR certification. About the Management Master’s Degree with Public Relations Specialization

The curriculum for the master’s degree in management with a specialization in public relations has been developed in conjunction with industry executives and an advisory board of senior PR leaders to ensure you are training for the highest level of PR strategy. In your courses, you’ll learn about public relations strategy development, tactical planning and execution, social media monitoring, and crisis communications.

  • If you don’t have recent statistics experience, take UCSP 630 before MGMT 650.
  • If you lack a recent background in finance or accounting, you should take UCSP 620 before MGMT 640.

  • You must maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher at all times.
  • All degree requirements must be fulfilled within five consecutive years.
  • Any transfer credits must have been earned within the five-year time frame to be applied toward a graduate degree.

Career Preparation

This program is designed to help prepare you for a management role in areas that include campaign strategy, theory, ethics issues, and crisis management in the public relations field.

Experience Recommended for Success in the Program

This program is appropriate for those new to the public relations field, changing careers, or looking to move up in the public relations function of their current organization. We recommend you have a background in statistics, finance, and accounting. If you don’t have recent statistics experience, we recommend you take UCSP 630. If you lack a background in finance or accounting, we recommend you take UCSP 620. We recommend UCSP 605 if you’d like to improve your graduate writing skills.

All students are required to pay tuition for all courses in which they are enrolled. Tuition rates are subject to the approval of the University System of Maryland Board of Regents. They may be changed, or other charges may be included, as a result of the Board of Regents decisions. Notwithstanding any other provision of this or any other university publication, the university reserves the right to make changes in tuition, fees and other charges at any time such changes are deemed necessary by the university and the USM Board of Regents.

The Board of Regents has authorized the university to charge a student’s delinquent account for all collection costs incurred by the university. The normal collection fee is 17 percent plus attorney and/or court costs. The service charge for a dishonored check is $30. Requests for services (for example, transcripts, diplomas, registration) will be denied until all debts are paid.

Financial aid and tuition remission for University System of Maryland employees cannot be applied to noncredit courses. Golden ID benefits may not be applied to fees, noncredit courses, specialty graduate programs, or doctoral programs. Regular tuition rates apply for cooperative education, course challenge examinations, and EXCEL 301.
