Chateau Ste. Michelle Announces its 2016 Summer Concert Series

WOODINVILLE, Wash. March 21, 2016 /PRNewswire/ — Chateau Ste. Michelle winery in Woodinville will kick off its 32nd summer concertseries on Saturday,May 28 and Sunday, May 29 with Paul Simon performing two dates. Tickets for the winery’s concerts will go on sale Saturday, March 26th at 10 a.m. online at www.ticketmaster.com and through all Ticketmaster outlets. Tickets may also be purchased in person at the Chateau Ste. Michelle wine shop from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

The “2016 Chateau Ste. Michelle Summer Concert Series” will offer concerts spanning the range of pop, jazz, rock and blues from May 28th through September 16th. Each concert takes place in the winery’s picturesque outdoor amphitheater with seating for 4,300. Acclaimed artists include, Paul Simon. Bob Dylan, Tears for Fears, Chicago. Lyle Lovett His Large Band, The Goo Goo Dolls, Don Henley. Nellie McKay. Bobby Caldwell. Jonathan Butler. Gerald Albright. Shemekia Copeland. The James Hunter Six, Mavis Staples. Robert Cray. Earth, Wind Fire, Culture Club, Jackson Browne. Josh Groban. Gipsy Kings, Steve Miller Band. Frankie Vallie The Four Seasons, Chris Isaak. Ray LaMontagne. and Bonnie Raitt .

Net proceeds from the annual concert series help fund Chateau Ste. Michelle’s charitable contributions program, which supports a broad range of non-profit organizations. In 2015, Chateau Ste. Michelle’s charitable contributions program benefited nearly 400 non-profit organizations.

All shows feature general festival seating on the lawn, as well as reserved seating. Performances take place regardless of weather.

The Chateau Ste. Michelle wine shop is open before all concerts with wine and picnic items available for purchase. In addition, an array of food vendors will offer a selection of menu items for sale in the amphitheater. Concert-goers may also bring their own picnic baskets and non-alcoholic beverages. (The Washington State Liquor Cannabis Board requires that all alcoholic beverages consumed on the winery grounds be purchased at the winery.)

What is guitar theory? While music theory pertains to music in general, guitar theory pertains to the guitar specifically. Typically, this includes only those aspects of music that enable guitarists to find their way around the fretboard, play music, and compose. What Scales Should a Guitar Player Learn?

In music, a scale is a series of notes played in ascending and descending fashion. Scale notes make patterns on the fretboard, which guitarists finger and pick position to position. Guitar players use scales to play melodies, riffs, solos, and bass lines.

There are countless types of scales that can be played on guitar, but did you know that popular music is mostly based on just two types of patterns? That’s right. Familiar genres of music like pop, rock, blues, and country use scale patterns based on the pentatonic scale and major scale. Another type of scale, the harmonic minor, is worked into these patterns on occasion. What is the Secret to Building and Using Chord Forms on the Guitar Fretboard?

There are literally thousands of different kinds of chords and chord shapes that can be played on the guitar, but did you know that most are related in some way to just five core forms? In the open position the five forms are C, A, G, E, and D. What does that spell? CAGED. With the guitar CAGED chord system, you barre each of the five open forms and move around the neck playing different chords in other positions, but that’s only the beginning!

You see, the CAGED system doesn’t end with making barre chords. Each chord form has a related arpeggio pattern. The notes from each arpeggio pattern are used to make all sorts of chord shapes. And these chords aren’t just used for strumming. Lead guitarists use the CAGED system to map out chord tones within scale patterns, and then they target these notes while they solo so that their lead lines are guided by notes relating closely to the chords and progression. How Do Guitarists Play Chord Progressions and Use the Number System

Music is always based on movement, whether it be melodic movement, chordal movement, or, in most cases, both. Almost every song is composed using a group of chords that move from one to another. A chord progression is the way in which chords are put together to form a series of chord changes. As chords change they determine the music’s movement and a song’s structure. Composing a chord progression requires you to understand relationships between chords and concepts involving the way chords lead to and pass from one another. What Are Modes and How Do Guitarists Play Modal Scales

One of the biggest mistakes guitar players make is to assume that the modal concept is just a theoretical idea that doesn’t really have a practical purpose, but this is not true. Most music is based in a mode in one way or another and recognizing modes is critical to understanding how music works. Chord progressions, melodies, harmonies, riffs, lead guitar solos, and bass lines are all derived from modal scales in some fashion. Understanding the modal concept is absolutely necessary if you want to become a knowledgeable, versatile player.

In a nutshell, here’s how modes work. The major scale has seven notes, and any one of them can be used as the starting point, or the primary pitch, of a piece of music. In other words, you don’t always have to base music off of the first degree and chord of the major scale. The sound of the scale changes depending on which degree is primary. How Do Guitar Players Learn the Fretboard?

With a combination of vertical frets and horizontal strings, the fretboard (or fingerboard) is essentially a grid. When arranged and played on this fretboard grid, notes, scales, chords, and progressions make shapes and patterns. Guitarists visualize these shapes and patterns in order to navigate around the neck. Furthermore, guitarists understand how musical elements fit together by fitting their pieces together like a puzzle. In fact, you can build chords, compose chord progressions, and determine correct scales to play simply by relating to shapes and patterns, with little or no regard to key signatures, notes, sharps, and flats. Even if you take the traditional route of thinking, you still have to translate the music concepts to the fretboard and connect the dots, so to speak. The Academy of Art University is actually not a music school nor a music school attached to a larger university, like most schools on these lists: rather, it is a stand-alone, for-profit, and privately owned general arts school with about 18,000 students, making it one of the largest art schools in the nation. The music production program is among the most significant in the country; many of their alumni have gone on to major production jobs at Sony, Dolby, Skywalker Sound, and CBC Toronto, among other top corporations. Some skills that their students are taught include mixing, mastering, orchestration, editing, and even composing for multimedia.

    Music Business/Management

    As a student majoring in music business/management, you will learn the music industry skills, concepts, and methodologies necessary to manage the legal, financial, artistic, and ethical issues that face the contemporary music business professional. You can select one of three available tracks within the major: self-directed or entrepreneurial activity, music products, or management in corporate environments.

    You will demonstrate functional mastery of necessary skills and concepts by completing a final capstone project/experience with portfolio documentation, depending upon the major track chosen. This experience will be an industry internship, leadership participation in an ongoing college model music industry project, or both.

    In addition, you ll develop a critical understanding of the criteria of quality work in music business and management environments via your course work, case studies, and exposure to guest lecturers, among other avenues of learning. Through group projects and other class activities, you ll explore how to work effectively with others in groupings typically found in the music business, and you ll develop your ability to nimbly adapt to changes in music business and management environments.

    Students self-select to declare the music business/management major following their acceptance to the bachelor of music degree program with demonstration of an overall grade point average (GPA) from their first semester of study of at least 2.0.

    What the Program Gives You

    Upon completion of a major in music business/management, students will:

    1. Synthesize the terminology of the music industry;
    2. Apply copyright and intellectual property law as related to the music industry;
    3. Develop effective promotion and marketing mechanisms for monetizing music;
    4. Communicate effectively within business environments (musically, orally, and in writing);
    5. Apply contemporary business practices to corporate and entrepreneurial environments;
    6. Assess financial and economic considerations in the commerce of music;
    7. Integrate, employ, and forecast technological applications as they appear in business environments; and
    8. Synthesize and apply leadership models, and the ethical considerations upon which they are founded.

    MacBook vs. MacBook Air: What’s the difference?

    The new Macbook isn’t just a prettier, updated version of the MacBook Air. Some features and specs got massive updates, while other features (like ports, for one), were sacrificed in the making.

    If you’re considering a new Macbook and finding yourself comparing the two options, look out for these major differences.

    Where are the ports?

    Outside of the 3.5mm headphone jack, the USB Type-C port is the only port you’ll find on the MacBook. Through this single interface you charge, sync and connect accessories to the MacBook.

    Meaning, if you want to connect the MacBook to an external monitor and an iPhone at the same time, for example, you’ll need a $79 adapter from Apple. (There are some third-party USB Type-C adapters for the MacBook that are cheaper, but reviews are mixed so proceed with caution should you decide to go that route.)

    The MacBook Air is much more generous. It’s equipped with two USB ports, a Thunderbolt port and a MagSafe 2 port for charging. With all those options, you can sync a camera, charge your iPhone, and use an external monitor — with ports to spare.

    That screen, though

    Apple continues to add its Retina display to more of its products, but the MacBook Air has been left behind. Both the 11-inch and 13-inch Macbook Air models are outfitted with lower-resolution screens, with the 13-inch model offering a resolution of 1440-by-900.

    The MacBook’s is a lot sharper. Its 12-inch display is a Retina screen with a resolution of 2304-by-1440.

    And in case you’re wondering: yes, you’ll see the difference. With all those extra pixels, text appears sharper (and easier on the eyes), images show more detail and colors are more vibrant. More simply put, everything just looks better on a Retina display.

    Speed

    One of the tradeoffs you’ll have to make when going with the MacBook is overall processing power.

    Inside the MacBook is Intel’s Core M processor, which is designed to be as energy-efficient as possible and doesn’t need fans to keep it cool. A side effect of that efficiency, though, is the Core M line isn’t nearly as powerful as the Intel Core i5/i7 processors currently available in the MacBook Air.

    For the average person, the speed difference may be noticeable but won’t hamper your productivity. But if you’re someone who wants to multitask with apps like Photoshop or iMovie, the sluggishness will be more apparent.

    Color coordinate all the things

    Unlike the standard silver color scheme of the MacBook Air, the new MacBook comes in the same colors as the iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch. If you’re so inclined, you can coordinate your gold, rose gold, space grey, or silver MacBook to match your phone, tablet and watch.

    The color of your computer isn’t going to have any impact on its overall performance, but if having a laptop that reflects your affinity for a certain color appeals to you, the MacBook is calling your name.

    Battery

    Apple is proud of the fact the MacBook is crammed full batteries stacked atop one another, filling every possible millimeter of its housing. Thanks to this design, the MacBook’s battery should net you roughly 10 hours of web browsing.

    Due to its bigger footprint, the 13-inch MacBook Air has a big enough battery to best the MacBook’s battery performance by two hours, with 12 total hours of web browsing. Either device should offer enough juice to get through a long study session or a typical workday on the go. Then again, those two extra hours could really make a difference for someone who is constantly traveling.

    Storage and memory

    With a recent product refresh, the 13-inch MacBook Air now ships with 8 GB of memory and 128 GB of storage for $999. The base model MacBook also includes eight gigabytes of memory, but the storage amount is doubled to 256 GB for $1,299.

    Force Touch

    The MacBook’s trackpad is equipped with Force Touch, a feature that’s also found on the Apple Watch and iPhone 6S (albeit under a different name, 3D Touch).

    By applying varying degrees of pressure on the trackpad of the MacBook, OS X will display extra menus and actions depending on what app you’re in. For example, force clicking on a link in the Mail app will open a preview window of the webpage the link will take you to. Apple has yet to add this feature to the MacBook Air line.
