How does the ‘/user’ pricing work? Is it the same as paying ‘/mailbox’?

One user corresponds to one mailbox of 5, 10, 15 or 25 GB based on the base plan you choose. However, a user can have many email or domain aliases (ie. different email addresses), with all emails accumulated in the exclusive mailbox assigned to the user.

When I move from the Free plan to a paid plan, how many users should I pay for?

The Free plan comes with 25 free users or mailboxes of 5GB storage each. When you are in need of more than 25 users, you’ll have to upgrade to a paid plan wherein, all user mailboxes will be upgraded to the higher, paid plan storage along with additional features. So, you will have to pay for all users, including the 25 existing users.

What methods of payment can I use?

What happens if I do not wish to renew a paid plan?

Your account will be downgraded to the Free plan with 25 active email users. The other user accounts (all but the first 25 mailboxes created) will be deactivated. The email data will be available for export for a limited time period.

Mail Merge Options – OS X

Mail Merge is an absolute godsend when it comes to printing labels and sending mass emails. The feature isoffered by many office applications and connects either an address book application or spreadsheet filled with contacts and pulls their information into a label or email, in turn making it so you don’t have to manually copy-and-paste hundreds of contacts into a template by hand.

There are a ton of applications for OS X that support Mail Merge, so we’ve written this article showing some of the best Mail Merge solutions for Mac and how to use them.

Office for Mac (Labels)

The latest version of Office for Mac — Office 2011 — has great Mail Merge support. Using Microsoft Word, you can link an existing Excel document containing contact information to a Word document, allowing you to pull contact data into labels, letters, and envelopes.

To start, launch Microsoft Word on your Mac and click into the Tools menu from the Apple toolbar. Select Mail Merge from the drop down menu and a Mail Merge pop-up menu will appear.

The Mail Merge popup menu has a ton of options that will make for an easy data import from Excel. From this menu, click the Create New button to start a new Mail Merge. You’ll be prompted to select a document type: a letter, label, envelope, or catalog. For this tutorial, we’ll be using labels

Select the printer you’ll be using to print these labels under the Printer Information option and the type of paper you’ll be using in the Label productsoption .

Under the second option — “Select Recipients List” — click the Get List button and select Open Data Source from the drop-down menu. You’ll then be prompted to select your Excel document containing addresses from your Mac’s file structure.

You can now customize the rest of the options as necessary: adding placeholders, filters, and customizing other options. Press the Return key on your keyboard to initiate the Mail Merge, and voila! You can view your labels within the document and print by pressing Command-P on your keyboard.

LibreOffice (Envelopes)

LibreOffice is a free office suite for Mac, PC, and Linux. The suite has n very easy-to-use Mail Merge Wizard that can be used to make quick and easy envelopes. To access this wizard, click on the Tools button from the task-bar and select Mail Merge Wizard from the drop-down menu.

The wizard will then guide you through importing a document to Mail Merge. From the start screen, you can select how you’d like to start your labels: from scratch, from an existing document, or from a template. We will be creating a new document in this article.

From the second screen, select Letter and press the Next button. From here, you can import your address spreadsheet by clicking the Select Different Address List. button from the upper right-hand corner of the screen. You will then be prompted to select your spreadsheet from your Mac’s file-structure.

You can format your labels from the center of the screen. LibreOffice will suggest two address layouts by default in previews shown at the center of the window. More presets and editing options are available in the More menu that is located to the right of the two defaults.

Looking towards the bottom of the screen, you’ll see a preview of your envelope. You can make changes to the formatting by clicking on the Match Fields button from the center of the window. From here you can edit what columns in your spreadsheet correspond to what part of your label.

You can now click through the rest of the settingsand your envelope templates will output to the newly created document. You can then print your labels by going File -> Print .

Unfortunately, LibreOffice labels will only print as full envelopes. To use WorldLabel or other custom label templates with LibreOffice, you have to setup databases. We’ve explained how to do this in an earlier post on the WorldLabel blog .

MailMergeApp (Email)

If you’re looking for a lightweight email-based Mail Merge app, MailMergeApp is just what you need. This $10 Mac application automatically links your Mail.app connected email addresses, making for seamless Mail Merge for email lists.

After launching the application you can type an email body and title in the center of the app. You can set which groups will receive this email and which email address the email will sent from using the left-most and center drop-down menus located towards the bottom of the window. To use Mail Merge to add recipient information to the email, use the right-most drop-down menu to select what field you’d like to add. The information will be added to wherever your text-selector is currently placed. Finally, click on the Merge button when you’re ready to select email recipients.

MailMergeApp will automatically pull in contacts from your selected group. Clicking through these contacts will bring up a preview of the email in the center of the window. Finally, you can send the email by clicking the Send button.

Labels and Addresses (Design)

Labels and Addresses is a $30 Mail Merge application for Mac that has built-in design tools. You can use the application to create beautiful label and envelope designs and apply Mail Merge information to them.

After launching the application, you’ll be brought directly to the Design tab. From here you can select from a variety of pre-made label, card, and envelope designs. Double click on a design, and it will open a new window where you can start using Mail Merge.

From the sidebar, you’ll see all of your Mac’s contacts. Clicking on a contact will automatically bring the person’s information into the label queue. You can select multiple contacts by Command-clicking multiple contacts. When you’re ready to print the queued labels, select the Print button from the upper right-hand corner of the window and a print screen will appear.

Additionally, you can use one of the application’s built-in label templates to create label, envelope, and postcard designs from scratch. When at the home-screen, click into the Labels, Envelopes. or Postcards menu — all of these are located to the right of the Design button.

When in these menus, you can select which label template you’d like to use to create your new design. Labels & Addresses has hundreds of templates built-in, including templates for Avery and DYMO labels amongst other brands.

Can I specify the exact time I want my mail collected?

If you don t apply for a regular Timed Collection, we can t guarantee a collection time. We ll try to agree a time within 15 minutes of your request, subject to availability.

I’ve received a letter telling me that my collection time will change. Why?

I pay for customer collection but I am now spending over £15,000 per year on Royal Mail products and services, how do I change to a free one?

If you spend 15,000 on Royal Mail products and services at the address we collect your mail from, you can change this to a free Customer Collection when we send your annual renewal invoice. You will have 30 days from the date on your invoice to make this request.

Bulk Processing with BULK COLLECT and FORALL

Part 9 in a series of articles on understanding and using PL/SQL

In the previous article in this series, I introduced readers to PL/SQL collections. These data structures come in very handy when implementing algorithms that manipulate lists of program data, but they are also key elements in some of the powerful performance optimization features in PL/SQL.

In this article, I will cover the two most important of these features: BULK COLLECT and FORALL.

BULK COLLECT: SELECT statements that retrieve multiple rows with a single fetch, improving the speed of data retrieval

FORALL: INSERTs, UPDATEs, and DELETEs that use collections to change multiple rows of data very quickly

You may be wondering what very quickly might mean how much impact do these features really have? Actual results will vary, depending on the version of Oracle Database you are running and the specifics of your application logic. You can download and run the script to compare the performance of row-by-row inserting with FORALL inserting. On my laptop running Oracle Database 11g Release 2, it took 4.94 seconds to insert 100,000 rows, one at a time. With FORALL, those 100,000 were inserted in 0.12 seconds. Wow!

Answer to the Challenge

The PL/SQL Challenge question in last issue s Working with Collections article tested your knowledge of iterating through the contents of a sparsely populated collection. Choice (c) is the only correct choice, and offers the simplest algorithm for accomplishing this task:

Given that PL/SQL is so tightly integrated with the SQL language, you might be wondering why special features would be needed to improve the performance of SQL statements inside PL/SQL. The explanation has everything to do with how the runtime engines for both PL/SQL and SQL communicate with each other through a context switch .

Context Switches and Performance

Almost every program PL/SQL developers write includes both PL/SQL and SQL statements. PL/SQL statements are run by the PL/SQL statement executor; SQL statements are run by the SQL statement executor. When the PL/SQL runtime engine encounters a SQL statement, it stops and passes the SQL statement over to the SQL engine. The SQL engine executes the SQL statement and returns information back to the PL/SQL engine (see Figure 1). This transfer of control is called a context switch, and each one of these switches incurs overhead that slows down the overall performance of your programs.

Let s look at a concrete example to explore context switches more thoroughly and identify the reason that FORALL and BULK COLLECT can have such a dramatic impact on performance.

Suppose my manager asked me to write a procedure that accepts a department ID and a salary percentage increase and gives everyone in that department a raise by the specified percentage. Taking advantage of PL/SQL s elegant cursor FOR loop and the ability to call SQL statements natively in PL/SQL, I come up with the code in Listing 1.

Suppose there are 100 employees in department 15. When I execute this block,

the PL/SQL engine will switch over to the SQL engine 100 times, once for each row being updated. Tom Kyte, of AskTom (asktom.oracle.com ), refers to row-by-row switching like this as slow-by-slow processing, and it is definitely something to be avoided.

I will show you how you can use PL/SQL s bulk processing features to escape from slow-by-slow processing. First, however, you should always check to see if it is possible to avoid the context switching between PL/SQL and SQL by doing as much of the work as possible within SQL .

Take another look at the increase_salary procedure. The SELECT statement identifies all the employees in a department. The UPDATE statement executes for each of those employees, applying the same percentage increase to all. In such a simple scenario, a cursor FOR loop is not needed at all. I can simplify this procedure to nothing more than the code in Listing 2.

Now there is just a single context switch to execute one UPDATE statement. All the work is done in the SQL engine.

Of course, in most real-world scenarios, life and code is not so simple. We often need to perform other steps prior to execution of our data manipulation language (DML) statements. Suppose that, for example, in the case of the increase_salary procedure, I need to check employees for eligibility for the increase in salary and if they are ineligible, send an e-mail notification. My procedure might then look like the version in Listing 3.

I can no longer do everything in SQL, so am I then resigned to the fate of slow-by-slow processing ? Not with BULK COLLECT and FORALL in PL/SQL.

Bulk Processing in PL/SQL

The bulk processing features of PL/SQL are designed specifically to reduce the number of context switches required to communicate from the PL/SQL engine to the SQL engine.

Use the BULK COLLECT clause to fetch multiple rows into one or more collections with a single context switch.

Use the FORALL statement when you need to execute the same DML statement repeatedly for different bind variable values. The UPDATE statement in the increase_salary procedure fits this scenario; the only thing that changes with each new execution of the statement is the employee ID.

I will use the code in Listing 4 to explain how these features affect context switches and how you will need to change your code to take advantage of them.

Webmail provides the ability to manage all your contacts in your web browser, just as you would with standard email clients.

Webmail also provides the ability to add pictures to contacts, pictures can be associated with entries in the global directory where users are able to update their directory image and contact details under Options in Webmail.

When the mouse cursor hovers over the address field in the message header of the preview pane, an Inline Contact Card will appear, overlaying above the message header, displaying a quick snapshot of the contact details, including the contact picture. If the sender address does not exist in the address book, then the Inline Contact Card also provides other action buttons, such as Compose New Email or View Contact Details.

Calendar, Appointment Scheduling Invitations

Webmail Calendar allows you to manage your appointments via drag drop and inline editing. Like Outlook, MailEnable Webmail Caldendar allows users to setup send appoinment invitations. You can schedule a meeting with others in the office, and they will receive an invitation in their inbox. They then have the option to deny your invitation, suggest another time that suits them better, or accept, in which case the appointment is immediately added in to their calendar.

The MailEnable server can also lookup and present to you a view of the Free Busy status of all the attendees, so you can find a time slot where everyone is free, without having to go through the tedious and lengthy processes of sending out the invitations.


Manage your projects & daily tasks by documenting them in Webmail Tasks. Track each task by inputting start and due dates, importance and sensitivity. You can easily update statuses and monitor percentage of completion of tasks.

Out-of-Office Start/End Times for Autoresponder

Users can now set a start/end date and time for their autoresponder, to more accurately target a specific time frame where they want to activate the autoresponder.

This feature is available in Webmail as well as for the Outlook/MAPI Connector.

Anti-Spam Security

Extensive security measures and authentication methods protect your mail server from unauthorised access. Features include SMTP Authentication, Integrated Windows Authentication, Relay control.

MailEnable Standard Edition has several inbuilt features to help eliminate spam. anti-spam features include PTR record checking, DNS blacklisting, auto-banning of IP addresses and much more. MailEnable is a standards-compatible mail server it can be used with a large variety of third party anti-spam software.

Administration Console

MailEnable’s management console has been redeveloped for MMC version 3. The new MMC is now much more responsive and intuitive. The layout is simplified and is more interactive, showing inbound and outbound connections and system usage.

When you login to the new MMC, users are presented with a dashboard providing a report on critical server activity and server health. This significantly reduces the need to review MailEnable’s logs or the Windows Event Viewer for errors or events.

It will analyze behavior and will raise events for the review of the system administrator.

List Server

Includes a fully functional list server allowing you to subscribe or unsubscribe members and provide information mail outs or discussion groups.

When you receive emails from bulk mailers, MailEnable will utilize the List-Unsubscribe feature and allow you to unsubscribe within the Webmail interface.

Diagnostic Reporting

MailEnable Standard Edition includes advanced diagnostics via a comprehensive Diagnostic Reporting Utility which assists in quick diagnosis of issues and speedy resolution. Features extensive logging in W3C file format to easily determine faults.

Migration Centre

MailEnable’s Migration Centre provides a simple solution for migrating from legacy email systems.
