The focus of Centennial College s Business Administration Leadership and Management program is to help students identify and develop their leadership potential. In ways that no other undertaking or institution can achieve, this School of Business offering will allow students to become confident in decision-making, analysis, management practices and leadership. In the Leadership and Management program, students will enhance their ability to manage projects, find efficiencies, identify the best hires, and leverage their financial know-how into smart, strategic business decisions.

Through practical assignments that simulate real business situations, students will not only focus on their growth as leaders and decision-makers but they will also gain knowledge in essential business basics such as:

Program Overview

The Master of Education, Higher Education program is designed for candidates with an interest in working in administrative positions in institutions of higher education, civic organizations, non-profit organizations, national government organizations, or the social sector. Program coursework provides students with a strong grounding in leadership / management / organizational development with particular attention to the higher education context.

Addressing the growing demand for higher education professionals, the curriculum emphasizes theory, research methods and data analysis, as well as substantive knowledge and skills development in organizational leadership, particularly as it pertains to higher education. Delivered in a convenient online format the M.Ed. Higher Education provides students with a well- rounded foundation in higher education administration, and the ability to personalize the curriculum to meet their needs through elective courses and project / internship experiences.

The M.Ed. Higher Education program is 45 credit hour program that consists of 10 core courses, two electives courses, an Internship or Capstone Project, and Master’s examination. The M.Ed. Higher Education program is offered fully online.

The M.Ed. Higher Education faculty is comprised of professors from multiple fields; several professors currently work in higher education administration and can provide first-hand experience education.

Todd Wanek

President CEO

The seeds of Todd Wanek’s passion for furniture were planted in the mid-1980s.During high school and college, Todd worked in all aspects of the business including shipping, production line, machine maintenance, product design and engineering, finance, and global sourcing.

Shortly after graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Stout, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Technologies, he moved to Asia to serve as the general manager of Ashley Furniture Industries Taiwan. He continued to live and work in Asia from 1989- 1993, establishing and managing Ashley Furniture Industries business development in China, Malaysia, Thailand, Taiwan, and Indonesia.

Todd returned to the U.S.in 1994, spearheading the purchase of an upholstered furniture manufacturing operation in Ecru, MS. At that time he assumed responsibility for Ashley Furniture Industries upholstery production as well as the company’s growing international operations. Two years later, Todd Wanek was promoted to Ashley Furniture Industries President and Chief Operations Officer, assuming responsibility for all of Ashley Furniture Industries worldwide operations.

By 1999, Ashley Furniture Industries was a major player in almost every product category and one of the best marketers in the furniture industry. Just three years later, Todd succeeded his father to become Ashley Furniture Industries Chief Executive Officer, a position he holds today. Todd is widely considered the industry’s foremost authority on international trade, manufacturing, marketing, and distribution.

Todd, through his leadership and vision, has been responsible for Ashley Furniture Industries sustained growth since he became CEO in 2002. Ron Wanek

As a young man, Ron Wanek’s enthusiasm for furniture was inspired by his grandfather and great uncle who built furniture as a hobby.

Working for a newly formed company called Winona Industries, Ron reported to three brilliant owners who he described as perfectionists. One was an engineer, one was a marketer and innovator, and the other was an excellent administrator. Ron was fortunate to be able to work with each of them to learn virtually every aspect of the manufacturing business.

In 1963, an opportunity arose to start a new operation in Red Wing, Minnesota, and Ron became involved in the startup and management of the business, receiving excellent mentoring. It was this history that helped create Ron’s foundation for his life and business career.

In 1970, Ron Wanek and a group of investors set out to make a difference in the furniture industry by forming Arcadia Furniture Corporation. This upstart furniture manufacturing company – with Ron Wanek responsible for establishing and managing operations – was in an industry dominated by large companies. In the beginning, Arcadia Furniture Corporation wasn’t considered a serious contender in the U.S. furniture industry.

Over the next six years, Ron learned all facets of the furniture business, including the importance of having a strong brand name. In 1976 Arcadia Furniture Corporation and Ashley Furniture merged into one company: Ashley Furniture Industries. Inc. The new company could now fully leverage a brand name that had been in existence since 1945. Ron’s determination and expertise were the driving force in laying the groundwork for one of the most incredible success stories in the history of the furniture industry.

Leadership Development Program

Lessons in Leadership is a six-month leadership training program designed to develop an organization’s current and future leaders. Lessons in Leadership is a link to the PDF version of this document.

Leadership Program Components

Assessment – The consultant will administer the KnowlEDGE for Leaders assessment. This assessment measures pre-program understanding of leadership and provides a baseline of participant knowledge.

Interviews – The consultant will interview a cross section of people in leadership roles to get a picture of the current leadership challenges.

Classroom – The consultant will facilitate six days of classroom training.

Reading Assignments – The consultant will compile and distribute pre- and post-class assignments involving leading best-selling and specially selected leadership titles of both books and CDs.

Conference Calls – The consultant will hold bimonthly conference calls (divided into smaller groups) to discuss development progress and the reading assignments.

Case Studies – Participants will work in class on real-life case studies specific to their business.

Setting Youth Ministry Goals

It s the beginning of the year which is always a good time think about long term goals. What goals do you have for your ministry this year? This month? For the next 5 years? I am not a big mission statement person, those generally are too loaded or too vague to give you actionable steps through the long term. However, measurable goals help so that you can identify the ministry as being fruitful to the ministry you are called by God to lead.


First, here are some helpful thoughts in putting together goals for the youth ministry.

  • What are your core goals in ministry? (see kids grow, empower adults..)
  • What are your family goals? (you need a personal life)
  • What are the church s goals? (ask people, you ll be surprised the diversity)
  • What are the pastor s goals? (they are somewhat important in guiding the big ship of the whole church)
  • What are the unspoken goals? (are you supposed to compete with the other churches in town, but folks don t want to admit it)

Once you have some thoughts and trends in these try and write them down where they can be achievable.

ie. The church s goal is to Grow the youth group . This is not an achievable goal. It is a nice goal, but not achievable in most cases. Grow the youth group by 5% each year becomes an achievable goal. You can say, we started 2015 with 30 active youth, at the beginning of 2016 we had 2 more active youth, that is growth by 6%.

This may seem disingenuous, but in reality, as an employee, you want your job performance to be measured by actual facts, not someone s random opinions. Having achievable goals will also help the ministry to celebrate that there were two more youth active in the group. If you did not have it as an achievable goal then you might have missed that two new youth grew your ministry by 5%.


Second, narrow down your goals to an achievable number. Set up a small list of big goals and a longer list of secondary goals.

It is only realistic to think that a ministry can hit on two or three major goals. These goals might have to do with growth measures, culture changes, major program changes, leadership changes, etc. These goals are also guidance for not just this year but setting a course for years to come.

You can start a secondary list of goals for some of the smaller items; grow a retreat event by 4, start two more small groups, create a year long teaching calendar, etc. The secondary goals you have can, and should, compliment or help to lead towards achievements in the big goals.


Spend this week identifying the myriad of goals your community you have. Then work to put the goals into measurable items you can work towards.

Share in comments what some of the achievable goals are that you ve found helpful. And a few that are not so helpful.

A great book read in setting goals and implementation is Mastering the Rockefeller Habits . You d probably want to buy the kindle version, since used versions sell for almost $50 now (it s that influential of a book). It is not a new book so you could probably check it out at your local library. This, if it is not obvious already, a business book. You gain insights into how Rockefeller built his business behaviorally with setting goals, weekly huddles, keeping the culture, etc.

You should be receiving in the mail a registration packet for each student for the 2017/2018 school year by mid-July. If you are unable to register on your assigned registration day, please call the office and let us know which registration day you will be attending.

Our summer office hours, in the Middle School and Main buildings, are:

  • Monday-Thursday, 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
  • Friday, closed

As a reminder, the Elementary/High School library will be closed over the summer for renovations. Students, K-12, may visit the Middle School library to take AR quizzes or to borrow books.

The Middle School library summer hours are 9:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. on the following Wednesdays:
