What does comprehensive auto insurance cover?

The first thing to do when considering comprehensive auto insurance – or any other type of insurance for that matter – is read the fine print. Some policies don’t cover certain kinds of damage, such as damage to GPS navigation or satellite radio systems that aren’t permanently installed in the car, while others cap the amount of coverage for these items [source: Maine Bureau of Insurance ].

A driver should also consider whether the car is likely to be exposed to hazardous conditions. A car parked on a busy city street, for example, is probably more likely to be damaged or stolen than one that is parked in a secure garage and, as a result, likely subject to a higher comprehensive insurance rate [source: Cadet ].

Keep Reading Below

Ultimately, the car’s value is the most important factor in determining whether comprehensive coverage is a good idea. In the event that a covered car is damaged, the most that this coverage will pay out is the cash value of the car at the time it was damaged, less the deductible amount. For a car that’s not worth much – perhaps because it’s old or banged up – the payout may be less than or equal to the cost of the insurance [source: Allstate ].

Consider for example a car worth $1,000 at the time that it is mauled by a cougar that escaped from the local zoo (or, more likely, stolen or damaged by a falling tree branch). If the owner has comprehensive insurance with a $500 deductible, the most the coverage will pay is $500. With comprehensive rates averaging about $113 a year, a driver who’s paid for the coverage for four or five years may get a payout close to what the driver has already paid in premiums. One common rule of thumb is that the annual cost of comprehensive auto coverage should be less than 10 percent of the vehicle’s cash value [source: Consumer Reports ].

In other words, the purpose of comprehensive auto insurance is to protect the value of the car from non-accident damage. If the value is already low, it may not be worth protecting.

Schedule An Estimate / Repair

Accidents happen to the best of us—but they don t need to inconvenience your life. Tell us about the damage your car suffered and we ll put you back on the road quickly.

Spot damage can be repaired by sanding and repainting the affected area. If the rust is bad enough it may need to be cut away and replaced with new metal. Hail dents may need to be pulled using paintless dent removal.

Paint scratches can be repaired using a few different techniques. Small scratches may be able to be fixed by rubbing it out but a big scratch may require the use of body filler and computer-matched auto painting.

Paintless dent removal may be performed by tapping the dent out from the backside of the panel. Larger dents may require drilling small holes to pull the dent out and spot painting or replacing the whole panel.

Collisions often result in a bent frame, decreasing the car’s structural integrity. We use computer aided machines to pull frames straight, restore factory specifications, replace panels, repair dents and computer match paint.

Reviews from the Driver’s Seat

I took my car into Schaefer Auto Body for some minor cosmetic repairs. The contact I had with Brett Billington and Jennifer Taylor was nothing short of excellent, not to mention the repairs to my car. It looks absolutely fantastic, and shows no signs that the car was ever even scratched.
I m a female and pride myself on keeping my car in tip-top shape. If in the future I have collision repair needs, I ll be taking my car back to Schaefer! They do fantastic work!

I enjoy the show most afternoons on KTRS. Thank you for providing entertainment and a bit of levity in our crazy world. It never fails to lift our spirits to laugh often and well.

I am writing to express my complete satisfaction with Schaefer Auto Body. My vehicle was hit in a parking lot near my home in Ballwin. Naturally, I called Schaefer to make an appointment for an estimate. Long story short, the car was repaired by Schaefer. Returned to me clean and ready to go. I noticed a problem with alignment on the tailgate portion of the repair and discussed it with Shaun, the Manager at the Ellisville location. He arranged for me to drop the vehicle off for alignment and provided a rental car for my use while my vehicle was in the shop. This was in late 2015.

Recently, I noticed that one of my taillights was not working. Upon closer examination, I noticed that there was water in the light. Checking on the Interweb, I discovered that when removing these specific taillights for repair or replacement, a special gasket was to be installed. I called Shaun and relayed the problem.

With no questions asked he ordered a new taillight for me as well as the two missing gaskets. I took the vehicle in this morning and waited for it to be repaired. 45 minutes later I was on my way.

It is not often that Customer Service is done the way I would take care of my customers.

Schaefer is a great vendor. Worthy of a chance to repair anyone’s vehicle. Thanks for bringing the word to us listeners.

I wanted an opportunity to tell you about my experience with Schaefer. I was driving my almost new car to work through the stop and go construction traffic on I-44 last month. Unfortunately, the young man in the car behind me kept going while traffic had stopped, hitting the back of my car. Fortunately, no one was hurt except my car. Sitting on the side of the road and being A.M. in the P.M. for many years, Schaefer was the first place that came to mind THEY WERE AMAZING. They worked with the hitters insurance company who was in a hurry to help me out. Kathy at their Crestwood shop kept us up to date through the whole process. They were the shining stars in a very frustrating situation.

Best of all. my new car now is back to new!

Thank you for supporting great companies.

Automobile History – Invention of the Automobile #history, #invention, #automotive, #automobile, #auto, #car, #inventor,

#

In terms of the lives of average people, there is little doubt that the automobile is the most revolutionary invention in the history of transportation since the wheel. The basic premise of the automobile is simple; choose a wheeled vehicle from the many types typically pulled by horses or oxen, add a motor and create a self-propelled, personal transportation vehicle.

The earliest ancestor of the modern automobile is probably the Fardier, a three-wheeled, steam-powered, 2.3-mph vehicle built in 1771 by Nicolas Joseph Cugnot for the French minister of war. This cumbersome machine was never put into production because it was much slower and harder to operate than a horse-drawn vehicle.

Amedee Bollee, also a Frenchman, built an improved 12-passenger steam car in 1873, but the steam engine proved impractical for a machine that was intended to challenge the speed of a horse-and-buggy. The invention of the practical automobile had to await the invention of a workable internal combustion engine.

The milestone vehicle was built in Germany in 1889 by Gottlieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach. Powered by a 1.5 hp, two-cylinder gasoline engine, it had a four-speed transmission and traveled at 10 mph. Another German, Karl Benz, also built a gasoline-powered car the same year. The gasoline-powered automobile, or motor car, remained largely a curiosity for the rest of the nineteenth century, with only a handful being manufactured in Europe and the United States.

The first automobile to be produced in quantity was the 1901 Curved Dash Oldsmobile, which was built in the United States by Ransom E. Olds. Modern automobile mass production, and its use of the modern industrial assembly line, is credited to Henry Ford of Detroit, Michigan, who had built his first gasoline-powered car in 1896. Ford began producing his Model T in 1908, and by 1927, when it was discontinued, over 18 million had rolled off the assembly line.

What You Need to Know About Getting
An Online Auto Insurance Quote

Determine your car insurance needs and requirements

Check for discounts when you buy auto insurance online

Make sure you have sufficient coverage

Getting an online auto insurance quote from 21st.com will help you save time and energy. While the process is simple, there is some essential knowledge that will ensure you get the best coverage for your money.

Determine Your Insurance Needs Before You Buy Car Insurance Online

Establish a definitive list of your auto insurance needs before getting an online auto insurance quote. There are two separate aspects to this list – the legal requirements of your state and your own coverage needs.

First, determine exactly what your state s minimum coverage requirements are. Each state is different, so make sure you thoroughly research what you need. This is your auto insurance coverage ground level and you can work up to build a policy that perfectly fits your needs.

The rest is based on your assets, driving record, and comfort.

The amount of coverage you want covered for bodily injury and property damage liability insurance is something to carefully consider. Given today s medical and repair or replacement costs, you want to make sure that you are prepared with adequate protection. It is highly suggested that you purchase enough coverage to insure your own financial security in case of an accident.

Next, checking into your driving record can unveil a wealth of information. This may help you understand why you are paying your current price for auto insurance. Perhaps there is a speeding ticket from a few years back or a small fender-bender that you will need to take into account during the insurance quote process.

Finally, there is your comfort level. Consider extra coverage if you have a newer vehicle, are nervous about losing your car for a week or two and not having extra money for a rental, or simply want to make sure that potential repair bills will be covered. This is the portion you have the most control over – do you want to pay more for peace of mind or save some extra cash on a lower deductible? With a little thought on this point you will know the answer.

Check for discounts when you quote auto insurance online

Make sure to check on what discounts may be available to you prior to buying auto insurance online 21st Century Insurance offers competitive discounts, including a discount for good students and buying a vehicle with safety features like airbags and Anti Lock Brakes (ABS). A little due diligence could uncover cost-savings.

Keep Consistent Coverage when you buy car insurance online

If you are switching auto insurance companies, be especially careful to avoid gaps in coverage. If your current insurance policy expires and your new one has a few days before going into effect, you could be left without coverage. This is not only unsafe, but may be illegal.

To ensure this situation doesn’t happen to you, wait until your new policy goes into effect prior to canceling your old one (if changing mid-policy). If you are changing at the end of your current policy, work closely with a 21st Century representative to ensure that your policy will keep you covered.

Also, when canceling mid-policy, be sure to get confirmation of the termination in writing from your current insurance provider. You will have proof if there are any issues in receiving refunds of an unused premium, just in case.

21st Century is Here To Help

Remember that 21st Century has representatives on hand to help with any questions or issues that may arise and provide you with an online auto insurance quote .

It’s easy to get a free auto insurance quote and even buy a policy if you like what you see – all online at 21st.com .
