Familiarize yourself with the template by learning what the colored lines mean.
These rules apply to all products, reguardless of size or shape.

The PINK lines are called cut/trim lines. The cut lines show where your prints will be cut away from the much larger sheet of paper it was printed on. This ensures color all the way to the very edge of your cards. This method is called full bleed.

The BLUE lines are called the safety lines. Anything outside these lines run the risk of being cut off. Although the cutting machines are very accurate, staying inside of this area ensures that important text/graphics won’t be chopped off. It also helps make your card more readable by provider further separation of text and edge of the finished print. Your background colors/images MUST extend past the PINK cut lines!
Keep all your non-background text, logos, pictures, etc. inside of the BLUE safe area!

Step Three

Verify that your design is in CMYK color mode and at 350dpi resolution.
This is very important as we will not be able to print your design if these settings are not correct.

Step Four

Now you are ready to begin the design phase. It’s up to you to decide what you want the card to look like. Start experimenting and use the different tools & techniques to get the look you desire.

Create separate files for each side if you wish to have printing on the back.

Useful Tips

The Inkjet Test: Throughout the design process I suggest printing your creations on your inkjet printer directly from Photoshop. Use glossy photo paper if you have it. This will give you a good idea how your card will look as far as sizing goes. If your text looks small when printed on your inkjet, it will be too small when printed by our presses.

I suggest using the highest resolution print option (photographic quality) that is available on your printer. No adjustments to sizing or placement will be needed. The design should print on the paper at the actual finsihed size.

Remember the full bleed process will trim your cards down to normal size.

Save Often!
You never know when your computer may crash or lock up. Loosing work you’ve spent hours on is very disheartening. While you are working on your file, save as a .PSD to preserve your layers within the design.

Step Five

After saving as a .PSD flatten the layers in your image. If any layers are hidden, discard them.

With all layers flattened, you can now save your image out as a press-ready .TIF file.

Over the last few years, the generic job title of business analyst has become popular in multiple industries. Although job duties can vary immensely, in the most general terms, business analysts work within a business or organization to identify and implement improvements to help a business achieve its goals. The title of business analyst can describe both entry-level workers and tenured professionals and compensation varies accordingly. This article discusses the work, compensation, and outlook for business analysts.

The Basics of Business Analysis

Business analysis is a disciplined, structured, and formal approach to analyzing a business process, identifying improvements, and implementing changes so that the business can better achieve its goals. It is based on facts, figures, and observations.

The International Institute of Business Analysis provides this job description, “A business analyst works as a liaison among stakeholders to elicit, analyze, communicate and validate requirements for changes to business processes, policies and information systems. The business analyst understands business problems and opportunities in the context of the requirements, and recommends solutions that enable the organization to achieve its goals.”

Business analysts can serve in many functions in almost any industry. For example, a systems analyst is a business analyst that focuses on how to best use technology to solve problems and improve outcomes. Other job titles where an employee perform business analysis include data analyst, solutions provider, change agent, requirements manager, specifications writer, researcher, product owner, product manager, or management consultant.

Business analysts may perform quality assurance, requirements gathering, documentation, or client support. They may also specialize in improving sales, by focusing on pre-sales, customer service. client relationship, and account management. Business analysts may also be very internally focused on process improvements within an organization and coordination across multiple departments and stakeholders.

Some qualities of a good business analyst include the following:

• Good listening skills

• Openness to change

• Adept in multitasking

• Expertise in prioritization, based on needs of multiple stakeholders

• Good negotiation skills, to seek timely buy-in on important decisions and prioritization from all stakeholders

• Identifying process improvement opportunities which can lead to efficiency and output improvements

Education and Career Path of Business Analysts

A bachelor’s degree or higher is required. Possible majors include finance, technology, management, and accounting. Because of the number of skills required, most business analyst positions are not open to new college graduates. Most business analysts attain their first position after a few years in a related position such as data analyst, functional analyst, systems analyst, business requirements analyst, or financial analyst.

The career path of a business analyst can include becoming a senior business analyst, a business analyst specialist in specific areas (such as SAP, Agile, or ScrumMaster), a business manager, a business architect, an enterprise architect, and finally a director or VP-level position. Other experienced business analysts become independent consultants, taking assignments on contract.

Almost any industry can employ business analysts, but most jobs are in information technology or management consulting firms. Other industries include accounting. investment banking. finance. and market research.

Salary and Compensation for Business Analysts

Compensation varies widely and is determined by the factors like location, experience level, and industry. For example, a business analyst working in a large New York-based investment bank will earn more than a business analyst performing market research for an automobile company in Michigan. Candidates who specialize in a specific technology (like SAP) may command higher premiums. Below are the average salary ranges and bonus percentages for business analysts.

  • Entry Level: $40,000 to $70,000 with up to an 8 percent bonus
  • Mid Career: $55,000 to $95,000 with up to a 10 percent bonus
  • Senior Level: $70,000 – $150,000 with up to a 10 percent bonus
  • Overall U.S. Average: $45,000-$110,000 with up to a 10 percent bonus

Business analyst is a general title for many different job functions in almost any industry. A good candidate should have an undergraduate degree and several years of work experience in the area of business analysis that he or she is interested in. The Dos and Don’ts of Writing a Great Business Plan

If you re planning a road trip across the country, you ve likely researched the routes that best suit your desires for the trip. Perhaps you chose scenic roads with lots of stops along the way, or maybe you decided to take the quickest track. To make it to your destination, you need to know where you re going and how you re getting there.

Preparing a business plan is just the same. Without a clear, objective proposal, you cannot expect your company to evolve successfully. The plan should serve to guide you throughout the startup process.

Brian S. Cohen, an operating partner at Altamont Capital Partners and member of Young Presidents Organization. a global network of young chief executives, likened the business plan to a road map for the company.

You don t want to go into any situation blind, said Cohen. You need a map for how you are going to achieve your objectives. The business plan serves that function.

Do share your plan don t keep it to yourself.

If you want your company to succeed, then all employees should understand the business plan s dynamics. It is not a document that you should lock away.

The business plan keeps an organization focused, [and] it needs to be shared, Cohen told Business News Daily. Too many companies treat it as a confidential document to be kept away from the prying eyes of the rank-and-file employees. I believe the business plan should be shared, discussed and amended where appropriate, through an open loop of feedback and insights.

The more people who are involved, the more ideas you can circulate around the company, Cohen said. It is important to consider every worker s input to ensure that the outcome is something that s pleasant to all.

Do follow an outline; don t go overboard.

You don t need to have an over-the-top, elaborate document, fancy formatting or flashy decor. However, much like a road map, it must make sense to you as well as to your company s employees.

Start your plan, said Cohen, by using a specific outline called SWOT. which stands for strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. First, create an executive summary, in which you describe in what field you wish to succeed, and how and why you intend on doing so. And then, list your company s strengths and weaknesses as well as opportunities for growth, and detail the threats to it that might hinder the achievement of those goals.

Do conduct research don t wing it.

As with any business project, research is absolutely critical to a solid business plan.

Research is one of the big value-adds of writing a business plan, said Joseph Ferriolo, director of Wise Business Plans. Research forces companies to learn what they can expect to make and what the industry trends are.

If the research indicates that your idea is viable, then you can proceed by writing down the goods or services you offer, your marketing plan, how much funding you need and your goals. For more ideas on specific points to include in your business plan, check out this Business News Daily article .

Do put it to use don t file it away.

Your plan is there for a reason. Don t be afraid to refer to it as much as possible think of it as checking the map when you ve made a wrong turn. There is nothing wrong with using your plan to get back on track or to remain there.

The biggest mistake people make is this: They prepare the document and then put it in a drawer and never look at it again. That s self-defeating, Cohen said.

Finally, remember that you should revisit your business plan as your company grows.

Don t just make the business plan and use it for funding really benchmark your company against it, Ferriolo said. Reference the plan monthly and quarterly, and revise your research and estimates as you proceed. Being accountable to the vision you set forth will help keep you in line and successful.

Editing and updating is always a good idea, too; you can never make too many revisions. Cohen said that a business plan is a document that is never complete.
