The Vocational Nursing Program at UT at Brownsville Texas Southmost College was the first college based program of its kind in the Rio Grande Valley. The LVN program has a tradition of excellence and has been recognized for its innovative education. This LVN program is also the first and only LVN Program within the University of Texas System.

Navarro College offers a twelve month Vocational Nursing Program which is accredited by the Board of Nurse Examiners of Texas. Graduates of this twelve month vocational nursing program receive a Certificate of Completion and can apply for licensure as a Licensed Vocational Nurse and take the National Council Licensure Examination for Licensed Vocational Nurses (NCLEX-PN). The program prepares vocational nurses to assist in providing care in a variety of health care settings in acute conditions of adults and children and with additional education and experience you have opportunities for development and advancement. Navarro College provides counselors to assist you with degree planning and the opportunity to complete non-nursing academic courses prior to admission to the LVN program. If you are already a Licensed Vocational Nurse with one year of work experience you can apply to the LVN to RN Bridge Program which is part of the ADN generic program. The vocational nursing program is also available at Mexia and Midlothian campuses.

Did you know that the School of Vocational Nursing at Southwest Texas Junior College offers a vocational nursing program which admits students every year at the beginning of the fall semester? If you decide to apply to this nursing program you need to complete several courses prior to admission and maintain a grade point average of at least 2.0 in every class. Other requirements include having a GED or high school diploma, passing the THEA exam, completing admission paperwork, presenting three letters of reference, and being in good physical and mental health. This one year vocational nursing program is accredited not only by the Board of Vocational Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas but also by the Coordinating Board for Texas Higher Education. The goal of the nursing program is to ensure its graduate nurses will be able to not only pass state board examination requirements but also to practice nursing in a competent and safe manner. The Southwest Texas Junior College School of Vocational Nursing is committed to provide a strong foundation of knowledge for future vocational nurses in the state of Texas.
