What is the screening process that Service Professionals go through in order to become members of the HomeAdvisor network?

    1. Verify Trade License
HomeAdvisor checks to see if the business carries the appropriate state-level license.
    2. Verify Insurance
As a part of our screening process, we encourage professionals to carry general liability insurance. We require coverage for hundreds of services.
    3. Verification of State Business Filings
For business types that require a Secretary of State filing, we confirm that the business is in good standing in the state in which it is located.
    4. Criminal Records Search
HomeAdvisor uses 3rd party data sources to conduct a criminal search for any relevant criminal activity associated with the owner/principal of the business.
    5. Sex Offender Search
We confirm that the owner/principal is not listed on the official state Sex Offender web site in the state in which the owner/principal of the company is located.
    6. Bankruptcy Search
We use 3rd party data sources to check the history of the principal/owner of the business for bankruptcy filings by or against them.
    7. Legal Search for Civil Judgments
We use 3rd party data sources to check the principal/owner of the business for state level civil legal judgments entered against them.
    8. Liens Search
We use 3rd party data sources to check the principal/owner of the business for liens placed against them.
    9. Identity Verification (SSN)
HomeAdvisor verifies the social security number(s) of the owner/principal for identity check purposes. This check applies primarily to smaller business entities.
    10. Identity Verification (Reverse Phone Lookup)
We conduct a reverse business phone lookup to identify records matching the phone number information provided by the business.

NOTE: Member service professional information confirmed as described above may change or expire over time; while HomeAdvisor attempts to maintain accurate and up-to-date information, and confirms changes when notified, we cannot guarantee that profile and screening information is accurate. Therefore, we recommend that before working with a service professional you verify that information presented is still current and/or acceptable to you.

Human resources assistants, also called HR assistants, are generally assigned to help HR directors and managers keep track of employee information. This information could include an employee’s name, address, job title, compensation, tax withholding information, and benefits such as retirement and insurance plans. HR assistants also help with documentation concerning grievances, terminations, absences and performance reports.

Human resource assistants are also typically involved in recruiting, hiring or training new employees. Tasks could include posting job openings, gathering information from applicants, verifying prior employment, contacting references and letting applicants know whether they got the job. HR assistants also may answer questions from employees or the public concerning the company.

SOLUTION: The Social Worker Ms #social #work #vignettes

The Social Worker Ms. Jenkins in Vignette-Nina, discussion help

Social workers have to identify ethical boundaries every day. The Social Worker Ms. Jenkins in Vignette-Nina has to use her professional aptitude and remember the ethical boundaries to determine Nina’s needs, that is where the NASW Code of Ethics help. The NASW Code of Ethics (2008) states that social workers have four core values to live by. These values are service, dignity and worth of the person, integrity and competence.

Social workers use these core values to form an ethical principal to help others, specifically their clients. The social worker Ms. Jenkins must remember her ethical principal in order to help her client Nina. Ms. Jenkins can help Nina in many ways, but there are important ethical dilemmas presented in the scenario. Ms. Jenkins has very limited skills with mental health and sparse resources. Ms. Jenkins does not speak Q’eqchi and there are no interpreter nearby to help Nina communicate her concerns and needs. Ms. Jenkins most logical first step is to seek out an interpreter to help with communication, but doing so will possibly violate Nina’s trust and confidentiality. The Social Worker main concern should be “protect the confidentiality of all information obtained in the course of the professional service” (NASW Code of Ethics, Section 10.7.c). The translator will obtain all of Nina’s confidential information. Nina may also feel uncomfortable communicating with the translator, which is opposite of the first NASW principles of promoting the well-being of clients (NASW Code of Ethics. Section 1.01).

Through visual observation Ms. Jenkins can see that Nina’s grades and sleep are suffering, but she may not see the reason behind those actions. Could it be the social political context stated in the Vignette-Nina. The Vignette-Nina states that many girls who were unaccompanied like Nina “have been exposed to sexual violence in their home countries and in their travel to the border”. For Ms. Jenkins to truly understand Nina’s motives Ms. Jenkins may need to refer back to the previous social worker who helped Nina before. Ms. Jenkins will gain more insight if the previous social worker was able to disclose all past pertinent information, with Nina’s consent, to Ms. Jenkins. This brings up one important ethical query. Ms. Jenkins does not know if the previous social worker followed the NASW Principles that a social worker should take reasonable steps to enhance such clients’ ability to give informed consent (NASW Section 1.03.c). If reasonable steps were given for consent then the previous social worker should have followed the NASW principles of forwarding pertinent information or any timely documents to help Nina when she moved (NASW Section 2.06.a.b). The previous social worker should have also assisted Nina in making appropriate arrangements for continuation of services (NASW 11.6.b).

Nina might feel abandoned, because the previous social worker didn’t adequately provide the provision for case transfer or have an appropriate continuation of service. This is one of the most common ethical violation that Strom-Gottfried (1999, 2003) found. If Ms. Jenkins adhere to the NASW Code of Ethics then Nina’s well-being will improve with time.

Cournoyer, Barry R. (2014). The Social Work Skills Workbook (7 th ed.). Belmont, CA: Brooks/Cole

As the Ethic Model is reviewed i n this scenario, language can be a barrier in some in stance. however this is not the case for Nina, because she speaks English she is able to articulate what Ms.Jenkin’s role in her life. As previously stated in my last post, Nina does have some major barriers she must overcome, such as i s she a victim of any form of abuse? ( sexual. emotional, or physical). Nina’s cultural background may prevent her from discussion this type of information with Ms. Jenkins. Therefore creating a ethical dilemma. Being that most Mayan household religious beliefs are Catholic and the men serve as the head of the household (Schuster,1997). Nina may not feel comfortable going against her beliefs. Therefore creating a difficult challenge for Ms.Jenkins

As the Ethic Model of Decision Making( Courno yer. 2014) discuss Ms. Jenkins would have to come up with a solution to address the issues. B ut with limited resources and funding from the school system, Ms.Jenkins would not have the nec essary resources to provide the intense services Nina would need to address the issue of abuse and failing grades. Therefore, Nina situation would fit Maslow’s Hierarchy of Need, because her physi ological or safety needs are not being met(Cournoyer,2014)

Cournoyer, B. R. (2014). Ethical decision making. M. Kerr, S. Dobrin, N. Dreyer (Eds.), The social work skills work book 7 th ed. (pp.133 -165 ). Belmont, CA: Brooks/Cole.

    Fire Extinguisher Servicing

Fire extinguishers require an annual inspection from a competent person to British Standard 5306 Part 3. Kind of similar to your car needing an oil change except that fire extinguisher servicing is a legal requirement and the penalties are severe.

Do not use price as the reason for choosing your extinguisher service company – use quality, reputation and transparency of charges. Low prices come with hidden charges.

Rest assured with our Easy Service. We promise:

    • No hidden charges
    • All service parts* included
    • Unique money back guarantee – if you don’t like our service, you don’t pay
    • No binding contracts

*Note: service parts includes anti-tamper seals, safety pins, labels, o-rings, gauge tests, CO2 swivel horns, CO2 hose and horns for standard UK portable fire extinguishers

In addition, it may be worth asking the company for proof of a specialist fire protection efficacy insurance policy. This will enable the company to pay the cost of the damage if the equipment they pass as fit for use does not actually work and you suffer financial loss. Normal Product Liability Insurance does not cover this for fire safety equipment.

Extended Service, Periodic Discharge Testing and Pressure Testing

In addition to basic annual maintenance, every few years, (as a rough guide, 5 years for water, foam and powder and 10 years for CO2) extinguishers must be discharge tested (extended service or, for CO2, overhaul service) to make sure they actually work and are in good condition internally.

    Type of extinguisher

With water and AFFF foam, they can be refilled on site. Powder will be too messy for this and CO2 extinguishers require specialist hydraulic testing in a workshop. The technician will usually exchange these for ones that have been factory tested rather than discharge in-situ.

Please note that we tend to replace these with new as our price for new products is usually less than the price to refill or test. Plus, as that extinguisher is already 5 years old, it is possible to pay for the test and refill this year and for it to fail the service and need replacing next year.

    Commissioning Service

When it is removed from the box, each fire extinguisher needs an initial inspection; called a commissioning service in the British Standard 5306 part 3. It should be carried out by a competent person on site after delivery. Failure to have the extinguisher commissioned by a certified technician on site runs the risk of invalidating fire insurance cover and is a requirement of a thorough risk assessment for the current Fire Regulations (Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005).

Note. Beware of companies offering to “commission” or “certify” and extinguisher before delivery. This is not acceptable as the unit may be damaged during delivery. Also, the commissioning service includes positioning in the correct location and checking suitability for the location.

    Installation Service

All extinguishers must be fixed in a permanent position. Ones with contents of 3 kg or 3 litres and above should be wall-mounted so that the handles are one metre from the floor. This also includes the common 2kg CO2 extinguisher. Smaller ones need to be mounted so that handles are one and a half metres from the floor level.

Our new extinguishers are supplied with a suitable wall mounting bracket in the box. The back of the extinguisher will have a bracket holder welded onto the body and all UK models are the same fitting. CO2 extinguishers have a little hole on the back side of the brass valve by the handles.

If you transport the extinguishers, take a look at transport brackets and straps for extra support. Most 1kg and 2kg powders will come with a wire clip bracket suitable for transport.

As many of our modern shops and offices have partition walls or expanses of glass, this may not be always practical. In that case, a fire extinguisher stand would be suitable.

    Monthly Inspections

The “responsible person” (the person responsible for the fire safety equipment at the premises or area of risk) has a duty to visually inspect the item at least monthly to include the following:

    1. each extinguisher is correctly located in the designated place
    2. each extinguisher is unobstructed and visible
    3. the operating instructions of each extinguisher are clean and legible and face outwards
    4. each extinguisher has not been operated and is not obviously damaged or has any missing parts
    5. the pressure gauge or indicator is within the correct pressure range
    6. the tamper seals or OK indicators of each extinguisher are not broken or missing

The results of these visual inspections should be recorded in a fire log book and corrective action, if necessary, is arranged. In the event of doubt the responsible person should arrange for a competent person (a certified extinguisher technician) to examine the extinguisher.

ANCC vs. AANP: Comparing Nurse Practitioner Certification Exams

It’s certification time for students graduating from NP programs this month. Choosing whether to take the AANP or ANCC nurse practitioner certification exam. if given the option for your specialty, can be a difficult decision. While the exams are overall very similar, there are a few small differences that can help you make your final decision.

So far this week we’ve compared certifying bodies, the cost of certification exams and pass rates. Today, let’s take a look at the structure and content of the two tests by breaking the exam down into its different components.

What is the process for signing up to take the NP certification exam?

ANCC: The first step to taking the ANCC nurse practitioner certification exam is to complete an application online. This application verifies that you possesses an RN license and have graduated from an accredited NP program. Once approved, you will receive an authorization to test notice along with instructions on signing up for a test date, time and location at a Prometric testing center. Applicants have 90 days from receiving this letter to take the test. If necessary, a one-time request to extend this 90 day testing window may be made.

AANP: Signing up for the AANP nurse practitioner certification exam is done through the AANP Certification Program website. Applicants must create an online profile and apply for certification. This application verifies that you possesses an RN license and have graduated from an accredited NP program. This process can be started six months before the intended certification date. Typically, applications take between 3 and 6 weeks to process. Once an applicant is approved, he/she will receive a notificaiton from ProExam including instructions on signing up for a test location, date and time. The test must be taken within 120 days of receiving notification. or the application will need to be re-submitted.

Note: Both the ANCC and AANP recommend signing up for your certification exam quickly upon receiving authorization to test. Testing slots can fill up quickly. So, complete the process in a timely manner so you can test at your preferred location and on your preferred date.

Where will I take my test?

ANCC: Nurse practitioners certifying through the ANCC take the certification exam at a Prometric testing center of their choosing. The exam is computer-based and offered year-round.

AANP: Candidates certifying through the AANP take the NP certification exam at a Prometric testing center of their choosing. The exam is computer-based and offered year-round.

Note: Both certifying bodies administer the nurse practitioner certification exam at Prometric testing centers. However, not all testing centers offer the same exams so check to see if the AANP or ANCC exam will be located most conveniently for you on the Prometric website. Don’t forget to bring your ID with you to the test and don’t be late! The testing center requires you to arrive at least 15 minutes before the start of your exam.

What content is covered in the exam?

ANCC: The ANCC breaks nurse practitioner exam content down into different areas for all specialties. The most common areas are foundations for advanced practice, professional practice, and independent practice. For each specialty the percentage of content associated with each area varies. For example, on the Family Nurse Practitioner certification exam. foundations for advanced practice accounts for 34 percent of content (59 questions), professional practice for 26 percent (46 questions), and independent practice for 40 percent (70 questions) of the exam.

When compared to the AANP exam, the ANCC typically has a higher percentage of questions focused on professional issues such as healthcare policy and ethics. So, if you choose to take the ANCC nurse practitioner certification exam, spend time going over these topics in your review books.

AANP: The AANP breaks the certification exam down into four domains; assessment, diagnosis, plan, and evaluation. The domains account for the following percentages of the test: assessment 35 percent (47 questions), diagnosis 25 percent (34 questions), plan 22 percent (30 questions), and evaluation 18 percent (24 questions).

Note: Both exams cover a wide range of topics including anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, pharmacology, health promotion and disease prevention, taking a health history, evaluation of symptoms, developing an evidence-based care plan, diagnostic testing, legal and ethical issues, cultural competence, epidemiology, healthcare economics, and healthcare management.

How long is the test and how many questions does it contain?

ANCC: The ANCC certification exam asks between 175 or 200 questions depending on specialty giving 3.5 or 4 hours to take the test depending on the number of questions. Of these questions, 25 are sample test items that are not counted toward the total score. For example, the Family Nurse Practitioner exam is 4 hours long and contains 200 questions, 25 of which are unscored pretest questions. This means that for the FNP certification exam candidates have, on average, 50 seconds to answer each question with each question accounting for 0.57% of the total exam score.

AANP: The AANP nurse practitioner certification exam contains 150 questions, 15 being sample test items that are not counted towards the final exam score. The exam is 3 hours long. This means that candidates have, on average, 50 seconds to answer each question with each scored question accounting for 0.74% of the total exam score.

Note: For all tests, 15 minutes are allowed before the test to become oriented to the computer testing software. This software is straightforward and easy to use. Test-takers should, however spend at least a few minutes familiarizing themselves with how to operate the testing program correctly.

How do I get my results?

ANCC: Test results are given in a pass/ fail format immediately upon completion of the test. In cases where the test is failed, a score report will be sent including information regarding performance on each content area of the test.

AANP: Exam results are given in a pass/ fail format immediately upon completion of the test. Candidates who fail the exam will receive an official letter indicating strengths and weaknesses of knowledge areas covered on the test.

What happens if I fail the exam?

ANCC: Individuals who do not pass the ANCC certification exam may apply to retake the test after 60 days of the last testing date. The exam cannot be taken more than three times in any 12 month period.

AANP: Candidates who do not pass the certification exam may apply to retake the test. Before being allowed to retake the exam, candidates must complete 15 hours of continuing education credit in the area or areas of weakness identified on the score report. The AANP certification exam may not be taken more than two times in any calendar year.

Which Brands Are Best When Buying a Wireless Router?

I hate shopping for wireless routers. Not that I shop for them often, mind you, but when I do it s always a nightmare to some degree or other. There are too many important features to consider 10 Crucial Features to Use in Your Wireless Router Setup at Home 10 Crucial Features to Use in Your Wireless Router Setup at Home Most wireless routers are equipped with a handful of amazing features that you probably aren’t taking advantage of. Here are some of the more useful ones to start exploring right now. Read More and I want one that will last a few years at least.

Indeed, my biggest fear is buying one that won t last, and unfortunately the ratio of high-to-low-quality routers has plummeted over the past decade. Sure, the features and speeds might have improved, but we ve paid the price in other areas.

Then again, some brands care about their reputations and the products they put out, and those are the brands I look to when I need a wireless router.

What Makes a Good Router Brand?

Note that routers from a good brand don t necessarily have to be advanced. We aren t talking about individual router models or individual features like tri-band Wi-Fi Are Tri-Band Wireless-AC Routers Actually Faster? Are Tri-Band Wireless-AC Routers Actually Faster? Quality and reliability. Are the products built to last? Are choice materials used in manufacturing or does the brand skimp on build quality just to knock a few dollars off the price tag? What s the average lifespan of one of their routers?

Customer support. Are people happy with the products they bought from a brand? If not, how does the brand respond? How far will they go to help you solve potential issues? And if a product is defective or doesn t meet expectations, what will they do to rectify?

    Recommended Wireless Router Brands

A quick note up front: no brand is perfect. That s the nature of business, but it s especially true in the realm of gadgets and devices. On the whole these brands have a track record of producing good stuff, but you may run into a dud now and again. Just know that that s normal.

    1. Google

You probably don t think of Google as a manufacturer of routers, but in 2015 it entered the market with its brand-new OnHub router and we re here to tell you that it s amazing and worth looking into 7 Reasons Why Your Next Router Should Be a Google OnHub 7 Reasons Why Your Next Router Should Be a Google OnHub Home routers are pretty much all the same. If you’ve seen one, you’ve seen them all. But the Google OnHub router is like nothing you’ve ever seen before. Read More .

The OnHub comes in two versions one by Asus and one by TP-Link (UK), both brands which we recommend but they re pretty much the same: the TP-Link has a stronger Wi-Fi signal while the Asus lets you set device network priorities with the wave of a hand.

Google WiFi Router – OnHub AC1900 (Black) Google WiFi Router – OnHub AC1900 (Black) The Google On app guides you through setup, shows you which devices are connected to your network, and offers help if there’s a Wi-Fi slow-down. Buy Now At Amazon $119.95

It s the coolest home router currently available so if you re in the market for anything other than a budget router, check it out. Google has done well with things like phones, tablets, and Chromebooks. Why not routers, too?

    2. TP-Link

TP-Link has become one of my favorite brands for networking-related accessories over the past few years. Despite being a Chinese company, its products don t have the same issues of quality that other Made in China gadgets might have.

The TP-Link Archer C3200 (UK) is a phenomenal choice with its six antennas that can support up to three wireless networks (and it s very reasonably priced at $200). The TP-Link Archer C9 (UK) and the TP-Link TL-WR940N (UK) are also solid as mid-tier and budget-tier options, respectively.

In short, TP-Link is for value buyers. You won t find anything as flashy as a Netgear Nighthawk, for example, but you will find robust devices that provide bang for your buck.

    3. Asus

Whether you lean towards the high end or the low end, Asus routers are some of the best on the market but especially so if you have the budget to go for one of the higher-end models. My only gripe is that they tend to be gaudy and too gamer-ish .

The Asus RT-AC88U (UK) is arguably the best consumer-oriented router as of this writing. At close to $300 it s going to hurt the wallet, but there aren t too many others that can compete on its feature set.

The Asus RT-AC3200 (UK) is another solid option if you want to spend less.

    4. Netgear

There s a big caveat that goes with our recommendation of Netgear: the higher-budget models are fantastic but the bottom-budget models are close to terrible. As long as you keep this in mind when shopping Netgear, you ll most likely be fine.

The Netgear Nighthawk X8 (UK) is the biggest, baddest consumer-oriented router out right now and we mean that in the best way possible but if the $400 price tag turns you off, the Netgear R6400 (UK) is a more reasonable option for most home users.

Again, Netgear can be hit-or-miss with its router selection, so when in doubt, check the user reviews How to Know If You Can Trust an Amazon Product’s Reviews How to Know If You Can Trust an Amazon Product’s Reviews Amazon product reviews are hit or miss. Sometimes they’re helpful, sometimes they’re fake. Here’s a tool you can use to check the integrity of a given product’s reviews. Read More and do your due research.

    5. Linksys

Linksys used to be my go-to router brand back when I was a kid who didn t know any better (to be fair, Linksys was pretty awesome back then). I m not saying the brand is terrible now, but you do have to exercise some caution.

The thing about Linksys is that it starts getting good around the $150 mark. For budget shoppers, the only sensible option is the Linksys WRT54GL (UK) which is cheap but dependable. On the other hand, the Linksys WRT1900ACS (UK) is perfect if you have fast internet and a busy home.

Take care to stay above the $150 models because you wouldn t be the first person, nor would you be the last, who has to deal with a budget Linksys router that overheats, drops connections, or restarts at will.

Which Wireless Router Do You Have?

Feel free to get a router that doesn t belong to any of the brands mentioned above. By no means am I saying that those five are the only ones worth buying! However, you ll find a few brands that you may want to consider twice:

These brands don t score well with user ratings on sites like Amazon and Newegg, mainly because they lack durability and longevity. In other words, positive reviews exist but are harder to come by. (Synology does make fantastic NAS data storage devices 7 Reasons to Use a NAS for Data Storage Backups 7 Reasons to Use a NAS for Data Storage Backups External hard drives are great for data storage, but there are many more benefits to using a network-attached drive instead.
